Mayco Stroke & Coat SC-24 Dandelion – yellow glossy ceramic glaze
Mayco Stroke & Coat SC-24 Dandelion is a yellow, glossy ceramic glaze for wet clay, bisque and stoneware. According to Mayco, it fires glossy without a clear glaze, and you can use it in both oxidation and reduction firing.
You control the opacity by the number of coats. All colours in the series can also be mixed with each other. Thinned with water or medium, they create wash and watercolour effects.
Applying the glaze
One coat gives a translucent yellow through which the surface underneath shows. For full opacity, Mayco recommends 2–3 coats. Let each coat dry before applying the next, otherwise the lower one will smear. Because Stroke & Coat stays exactly where you apply it, according to Mayco, you can also use it for lines and details next to other colours.
Firing and cone 6
The series is designed for cone 06/05 (approx. 998 and 1031 °C respectively, guide value per Orton chart). For stoneware: at cone 6 (approx. 1222 °C, guide value per Orton chart) in oxidation, Dandelion turns transparent and lightens to a pale yellow, similar to SC-42 Butter Me Up. If you want to keep the strong, opaque yellow, fire at a lower temperature. For high temperatures, Mayco recommends testing first.
Dinnerware
After correct firing, the surface is considered dinnerware safe according to Mayco (Dinnerware Safe). Please see the notes under the warnings.
