Battery disposal

Disposal of batteries and rechargeable batteries

Waste batteries do not belong in household waste

Batteries and rechargeable batteries, including those built into devices, must not be disposed of with household waste. They contain valuable raw materials that can be recycled, and some contain substances that are harmful to the environment and to health. As an end user, you are legally obliged to dispose of waste batteries separately from household waste.

How to return your waste batteries

  • In our store: You can hand in waste batteries free of charge at our store: Bastelkiste GmbH, 17, Rue du Fort Elisabeth, L-1463 Luxembourg (Mon–Sat, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.).
  • By post: You can also return waste batteries to us by post free of charge. Please send them to the address above with sufficient postage.
  • At public collection points: Waste batteries are also accepted at municipal collection points and by retailers that sell batteries.

Before returning batteries

  • Please discharge batteries as fully as possible before returning them.
  • Cover the terminals of lithium batteries with adhesive tape to prevent short circuits, which can cause fires.
  • Damaged or swollen lithium batteries must not be sent by post. Please take them directly to a collection point or to our store.
  • If batteries can be removed from a device without damaging it, please remove them before disposal.

What the symbols mean

The crossed-out wheeled bin on batteries and packaging means that the battery must not be disposed of with household waste.

If a chemical symbol appears below the bin, the battery contains that substance above a legal limit:

  • Pb = lead
  • Cd = cadmium
  • Hg = mercury

By returning your waste batteries separately, you make an important contribution to preventing waste, recycling valuable raw materials and protecting the environment and health.
