Mayco Stroke & Coat SC-017 Cheeky Pinky – ceramic glaze for details and opaque coverage
Mayco Stroke & Coat SC-017 Cheeky Pinky is a glossy ceramic glaze that you apply to wet clay, earthenware bisque or stoneware bisque. The pot contains 236 ml (8 oz). According to Mayco, colours placed next to each other stay put and do not run into one another. This lets you keep lines, patterns and multicoloured designs neatly separate.
The glaze fires glossy and needs no clear glaze over it. According to Mayco, it is dinnerware safe. According to ACMI, the AP seal (Approved Product) means that the product is non-hazardous (no labelling required).
Applying the glaze
Stir the glaze well before use and apply it with a brush. One coat turns translucent after firing; for full opacity Mayco recommends 2–3 coats. Let each coat dry before applying the next, otherwise the design will smudge. Thinned with water, it gives soft glazing and watercolour effects. All colours in the series can be mixed with each other, so you can blend Cheeky Pinky with other Stroke & Coat colours.
Firing and choosing
The glaze is formulated for cone 06/05 and, according to Mayco, can be fired up to cone 10 (approx. 1285 °C, guide value per Orton chart), in oxidation or reduction. At high temperatures the result can change depending on the colour: some colours become more transparent or lighter, and for cone 6 (approx. 1222 °C, guide value per Orton chart) you will find the behaviour on the label. A test piece is therefore worthwhile for high firing. Because the glaze fires glossy, you do not need an additional clear glaze. If you want to build a design in several colours, simply place them next to each other – they will not run.
