Mayco Stroke & Coat SC-091 Seabreeze – light blue/turquoise ceramic glaze for fine brushwork
Mayco Stroke & Coat SC-091 Seabreeze is a ceramic glaze in a shade between light blue/turquoise and green, which you apply with a brush to damp clay or bisque ware. The glaze is highly pigmented and thick. You can use it for brushstrokes or apply it opaquely, and it fires to a glossy finish without needing a clear glaze. The bottle contains 236 ml.
According to Mayco, the colours in the series can be placed next to each other without running. This makes Seabreeze suitable for patterns, lines and multicoloured designs.
Applying Seabreeze
Stir the glaze well before use and apply it with a brush. With just one coat the result is translucent, so the surface underneath shows through. For full opacity, Mayco recommends 2–3 coats. Let each coat dry before applying the next to keep the finish even. The glaze fires to a glossy finish, so you do not need an additional clear glaze.
Mixing, thinning and firing
All the colours in the series can be mixed with one another, so you can create your own shades. Thinned with water, the glaze gives a wash or watercolour effect with soft transitions. According to Mayco, the glaze is designed to mature at cone 06/05.
- Cone 06: approx. 998 °C, guide value per Orton chart
- Cone 05: approx. 1031 °C, guide value per Orton chart
Dinnerware and high firing
According to Mayco, the glaze is dinnerware safe. According to ACMI, the AP seal (Approved Product) means that no hazard labelling is required. If you want to fire higher, for example at cone 6 (approx. 1222 °C, guide value per Orton chart), colours may change according to Mayco. Make a test piece first.
