Mayco Designer Silkscreen – Transfer Designs to Ceramics by Screen Printing
The Mayco Designer Silkscreen is a reusable screen print stencil for printing designs onto ceramics. You mix underglaze or paint with Silkscreen Medium to form a paste and press it through the screen onto bisque or unfired glaze. This lets you repeat the same design on several pieces in the same form. Choose your design from the options.
According to Mayco, you can also use the stencil as an outline and then fill in the area with colour. The design can also be transferred to glass, wood or fabric. The stencil can be used many times, so you can use the same template for several projects.
Printing with the silkscreen
Mayco describes the application using AC-310 Silkscreen Medium as a base. The medium is a separate product and is not included. The paste produces designs on bisque or on unfired glaze.
- Mix Silkscreen Medium with underglaze, Stroke & Coat, Designer Liner or acrylic paint to form a paste.
- Lay the stencil flat on the clean, dry surface.
- Press the paste evenly through the screen and lift the screen straight up so the design does not smudge.
- Clean the screen straight after printing, while the paste is still wet.
Suitable surfaces and colours
On bisque and unfired glaze, use underglaze or Stroke & Coat; on glass, wood or fabric, use acrylic paint. A test print on a test piece beforehand shows how thick the paste can be and how sharp the outlines will be. The colour in the paste should suit your later firing or intended use; please follow the instructions of the respective colour manufacturer.
