Mayco Jungle Gems Crystal Glaze S-2718 Cosmic Black is a liquid crystal glaze that you brush onto bisque-fired ceramics. It contains crystalline particles that spread during firing and form patterns that turn out differently on every piece. The glaze is ready to use and comes in a 118 ml container. You can use it to decorate vases, bowls and other decorative objects, for example.

Important before you buy: the glaze is not suitable for dinnerware or for contact with food. The surface may craze, so use it only for decorative pieces.

How to apply the glaze

The crystals settle in the container, so thorough stirring is the most important step. The glaze is intended for bisque-fired ceramics, not for raw clay.

• Shake and stir well before each use so that the crystals are evenly distributed.
• Using a fan brush, apply 2–3 even coats to the bisque-fired piece (bisque firing cone 04, approx. 1063 °C, guide value per Orton chart).
• Allow to dry between coats.
• For the third coat, redistribute the crystals if necessary so that the coverage is even.
• Allow to dry thoroughly before firing.

Firing and crystal effect

Fire at cone 06 (approx. 998 °C, guide value per Orton chart) to cone 05 (approx. 1031 °C, guide value per Orton chart). At higher temperatures the colours become paler, so stay within the stated range. The crystals may run during firing: do not apply them near the base, so that the glaze does not run onto the foot. Cosmic Black belongs to the Mayco Jungle Gems series; the colours in the series differ in shade and crystal effect.
