Mayco Fundamentals Underglaze UG-216 Peach – underglaze in a warm peach shade

Mayco Fundamentals Underglaze UG-216 Peach is an underglaze in a warm peach shade for decorating ceramics. Mayco formulated the range for greenware and bisque. It can also be applied directly to wet or leather-hard clay, which is then fired to cone 04 (approx. 1063 °C, guide value per Orton chart). The bottle contains 59 ml.

Peach suits floral motifs, skin tones, pastel areas and fine accents. With opaque Fundamentals, the true colour only shows after firing. It is therefore best to make a test piece on your own clay.

Applying Peach

Shake the bottle well before use. Apply 2–3 coats, depending on whether you want a line drawing or an opaque area. Applied thinly, it gives transparent peach tones; in several coats, soft, opaque areas. The underglaze is suitable for brushwork, details and larger areas, and can be painted, dabbed or layered. Let each coat dry before applying the next so that the layer underneath does not dissolve again.

Firing and clear glaze

Without clear glaze the underglaze fires to a satin matt finish; with clear glaze it gives a glossy finish. The clear glaze intensifies the colour. For the second firing with clear glaze, Mayco specifies cone 06–05 for earthenware (approx. 998–1031 °C, guide value per Orton chart) and cone 5–10 for stoneware (up to cone 10, approx. 1285 °C, guide value per Orton chart). For Peach, Mayco recommends SW-001 Stoneware Clear.

Higher temperatures and dinnerware

The range is formulated for low-fire use. Most colours stay stable at higher temperatures too, but some may change. Test Peach on your own clay and in your own kiln. For dinnerware, use the underglaze only under a transparent, dinnerware-safe clear glaze. According to ACMI, the AP (Approved Product) seal means: non-hazardous (no labelling required).

Do not apply by spraying. Suitable for dinnerware only under a transparent, dinnerware-safe clear glaze (Dinnerware Safe with Clear Glaze); without clear glaze, the underglaze is not intended for dinnerware.
