Single-Point Metal Kiln Stilt – Tiny Contact Area in the Glaze Firing

You place the single-point metal kiln stilt under glazed ceramics for the glaze firing, so the piece stands clear of the kiln shelf. The metal points are very small, so the contact area with the ceramic is minimal. After firing, the stilt comes away easily from the piece and only tiny marks are left in the glaze where it rested.

At Ø 15 mm and 9 mm high, the kiln support is compact and also fits under smaller pieces. It is designed for firing ranges up to 1250 °C.

Using the kiln stilt

Before the glaze firing, stand the stilt under the glazed item so that it rests on the points. For a stable stance, use several kiln supports per piece, at least three. This also makes sense at high temperatures: the stilt can be used up to 1250 °C, but its load capacity depends on the weight of the ceramic. With several supports the weight is spread, and each individual point carries less.
