Stainless Steel Tripod Stilt – Kiln Support for Clean Glazed Bases
This tripod is a kiln stilt made of heat-resistant stainless steel, on which you can position glazed ceramics securely in the kiln. It has fine metal points and touches the piece at only three tiny points. That leaves hardly any surface for the glaze to stick to, and glaze defects on the base are kept to a minimum.
At a height of 10 mm, it lifts the piece only slightly. It is easy to remove again after firing. The tripod is available in several sizes; choose the size from the options.
Using the tripod
Place the tripod on the kiln shelf and set the glazed piece with its base on the three points. This means the base can also be glazed without the piece sticking to the shelf. Make sure the piece sits securely and level and does not tip. Choose the size to suit the piece, so that the points are sensibly spaced under the base.
Weight and temperature
The tripod is rated for up to 1250 °C. How much load it can take depends on the weight of the ceramic: heavy pieces need a larger support that can carry them safely. The three points leave small marks on the base, which you can sand smooth after firing if needed.
