AMI Modelling Tool Set – 11 Tools for Clay, Plaster and Modelling Compounds

The AMI modelling tool set contains 11 wooden-handled tools for shaping, cutting, scoring, smoothing and texturing clay, plaster, polymer clay and other modelling compounds. The tools have different ends, such as loops, small blades and wire brushes. That way you have the right end to hand for both coarse and fine work, without having to buy individual tools separately.

The handles are made of wood and sit comfortably in the hand. At around 16 cm long, the tools are easy to guide, even for small details on figures, vessels or reliefs. The set includes a reusable plastic pouch, in which you can store all the pieces together and take them with you. The set is suitable for hobby use, school, art classes and the studio.

Which tool to use for what

The loops are suitable for hollowing out and removing larger amounts of material, for example when you want to lighten a figure from the inside. With the small blades you trim edges cleanly, cut pieces off or score lines and contours. The fine ends add details such as eyes, hair or patterns. For smoothing, use an end with a round surface and work over the surface in steady strokes. Finish by going over the surface with a slightly dampened tool; with clay, this helps against grooves. With polymer clay, on the other hand, it is best to work without water.

Care and storage

Wipe the tools after use and remove clay residue while it is still soft. Remove plaster residue straight away, as it sticks firmly once dry. Do not leave wooden handles lying in water, so that the wood does not swell. Once dry, store all the pieces in the plastic pouch again. The loops and small blades have sharp edges, so take care when working with them and putting them away.
