ABIG metal banding wheel, Ø 30 cm – for larger clay pieces

The ABIG metal banding wheel (art. no. 24310) with a diameter of 30 cm supports larger clay objects and ceramic pieces while you turn it by hand for shaping, painting or glazing. The turntable is made of rust-free die-cast zinc. According to ABIG, the material is similar to aluminium but about three times heavier. At 3.7 kg, the wheel sits firmly on the table, and the ball-bearing mechanism gives smooth, even rotation.

The surface of the turntable is machined flat and has centring grooves. You can use them to align a bat or your piece accurately. The overall height is 50 mm.

Working with the banding wheel

Place your piece or a bat in the centre of the turntable and align it using the centring grooves. When building with coils or slabs, turn the wheel in small steps with your free hand. This lets you see the piece from all sides, and the wall thickness stays even. When painting, hold the brush steady in one spot and let the wheel turn past it, so that lines and edges come out even. You can also apply glaze all the way round in the same way.
