Metal pottery banding wheel with height-adjustable arm rest

This banding wheel in die-cast zinc has a diameter of 23 cm and turns smoothly on ball bearings. You can shape, paint and glaze clay and ceramic pieces on it without constantly turning the piece in your hand. The top plate is turned flat on its face and has centring grooves, which you use to line objects up in the middle.

A height-adjustable arm rest sits on the side. You rest your hand or arm on it and work with less fatigue, especially on fine work such as decorative lines, painting or glazing. At 12 cm overall height, the wheel sits on the table so that you have a good view of the workpiece. The heavy, rust-resistant material gives a steady rotation.

Working with the banding wheel

You turn a banding wheel by hand. It helps you work on a piece evenly without having to handle it and shift it around.

• Line the object up in the centre of the plate using the centring grooves, so that it does not wobble as it turns.
• Adjust the arm rest so that your hand or forearm rests comfortably.
• Turn the wheel evenly with one hand and guide a brush, modelling tool or stamp with the other. This lets you draw lines and bands evenly and apply glaze in one pass.

What it is suitable for

You can use the wheel for hand-built ceramics, for decorating and painting, and for glazing vessels. In model making, too, you can turn parts evenly on it and work on them. It is not intended for throwing with a motor and foot pedal; for that you need a powered potter's wheel.
