Modelling Loop Tool No. 2 – Cutting Recesses in Clay

With the modelling loop tool No. 2, you can cut recesses into moist clay and hollow out shapes. The steel loop is set in a wooden handle and the tool is 135 mm long. It is easy to control, so it suits beginners in modelling as well as regular use in the workshop.

Modelling loop tool No. 2 belongs to a series of five shapes (No. 1 to 5). No. 4 has a small triangular loop, No. 5 a round one. The shape of the loop determines the contour of the recess. With several numbers you can therefore cover different tasks.

Working with the loop tool

Place the loop flat on the moist clay and pull it towards you in short strokes. This removes thin shavings instead of loosening too much material at once. When working on hollow forms, check the wall thickness from time to time so that it stays even and the piece does not become too thin. After use, clean clay residue off the loop tool and dry it so that the steel does not rust.
