Diskus Plaster Mould – Shape Bowls and Half Bowls from Clay Evenly
The Diskus plaster mould, made of moulding plaster, helps you shape small bowls and half bowls from clay cleanly and evenly. The plaster draws moisture out of the wet clay, so the shaped piece then comes out of the mould easily.
The mould is made in Germany and is available in several sizes. Choose your size from the options. With several pieces made from the same mould, you get bowls that match in shape and size, for example for series or workshop courses.
Working with the plaster mould
Plaster absorbs water from the clay. The drier the mould, the faster and more strongly it absorbs. The clay shrinks as it dries and so comes away from the plaster.
- Check the mould for dust and clay residue before use.
- Press the clay evenly into the mould and keep the wall thickness as consistent as possible.
- Leave the piece in the mould to firm up until it comes away from the plaster wall.
- Carefully remove the half bowl and finish the rim.
Caring for the mould
Let the mould dry out completely between uses, as a damp mould hardly draws any more water from the clay. Scrape off clay residue only when it is dry. Make sure no bits of plaster get into your clay: plaster in the clay can cause flaking during firing.
