Botz 9864 Rosa Fels stoneware glaze – satin finish with fine light red effects

Botz 9864 Rosa Fels is a satin, opaque glaze for stoneware with a firing range of 1220–1280 °C. It shows fine light red effects on a pink base. The pot contains 200 ml.

How the glaze looks depends on the firing temperature. Botz recommends 1250 °C with a 30-minute hold. This gives a medium shade with a granite-matt surface and attractive effects. If your firing curve sits towards the lower or upper end of the range, the result changes noticeably.

Results at 1220, 1250 and 1280 °C

The colour changes with the firing temperature. These notes will help you choose the temperature:

• 1220 °C: darker, richer colour, more matt, fewer effects
• 1250 °C: medium shade, granite-matt, attractive effects
• 1280 °C: lighter colour, glossier, plenty of effects

Application and firing

Stir the glaze well before use and apply 2 to 3 coats with a brush, preferably 3. Let each coat dry thoroughly before applying the next. With three coats the colour is more even and the effects show to better advantage. Fire within the range of 1220–1280 °C; 1250 °C with a 30-minute hold is recommended.

Which pot size?

With 200 ml you can test the shade on a test tile made from your own clay and get a feel for the application thickness before glazing larger pieces. For larger quantities, 9864 Rosa Fels is also available in an 800 ml pot.
