Botz Stoneware Glaze 9876 Weiß glänzend – opaque liquid glaze for 1220–1280 °C

Botz stoneware glaze 9876 is a liquid, white, glossy glaze for stoneware in the firing range of 1220 to 1280 °C. It covers in several coats and gives an even, glossy white surface, for example on bowls, mugs, vases or tiles.

At these temperatures stoneware becomes vitrified and cannot absorb water. Fired within the firing range, the glaze is also frost-proof, so the pieces can be used outdoors as well. As a reference, Botz gives 1250 °C with a 30-minute hold.

Applying the glaze

Stir the glaze well before use, as the particles settle in the container. Then apply 2 to 3 coats with a brush and let each coat dry thoroughly. For a strong, opaque white surface, three coats are better. If applied very thinly, the glaze looks transparent and the clay body shows through.

White as a base for pastel shades

You can mix the white glaze with Botz opaque stoneware colours to create soft pastel shades. Make a test piece on your own clay beforehand and fire it along with your work, as the result depends on the mixing ratio and on your firing. Do not apply the glaze right down to the foot of the piece, so that nothing runs onto the kiln shelf.
