Botz Stoneware Engobe 9821 Gelb – matt, opaque engobe for stoneware

Botz stoneware engobe 9821 Gelb is a liquid yellow engobe for stoneware. You apply it with a brush to leather-hard or bisque-fired clay and fire it in the range from 1180 to 1280 °C. The tub contains 800 ml, which is enough for larger projects or several pieces.

Without glaze, the engobe looks soft matt and earthy. It covers well and reproduces contours sharply, so it also suits decoration, lines and solid areas. Under a clear glaze, for example Botz 9300 or 9870, the yellow becomes intense and glossy. The engobe can be mixed with other colours from the Botz edition, so you can make your own shades.

Application

The engobe settles in the tub, so stir it thoroughly before each application. Thin layers dry more evenly than one thick coat, which can lead to cracks and flaking.

• Stir the engobe well
• Apply 2–3 layers to leather-hard or bisque-fired clay
• Let each layer dry well before applying the next
• Fire in the firing range 1180–1280 °C

Matt or glossy – which suits your piece?

Applied neat, the yellow stays matt. If you want it to glow and shine, cover the dry engobe with a clear glaze. How the yellow then looks depends on the glaze you choose and on your firing. A test piece shows you the result beforehand. You can mix it with other edition colours to make your own shades, for example with a lighter engobe for more subtle tones. The series is also available in other colours such as Toffee, Sunset, Ocean and Schwarz.
