Botz liquid glaze 9450 Transpünktchen – transparent with black specks

Botz liquid glaze 9450 Transpünktchen is a glossy, transparent glaze for earthenware that shows fine black specks after firing. It gives you a speckled surface without having to paint the specks on yourself. It can be fired up to 1100 °C and is stable in the range from 1020 to 1060 °C.

As the glaze is transparent, the colour of your clay body or of an engobe underneath remains visible. Over engobes it shows off the colour and adds the dark speckling. You can also mix it with engobe: Botz gives a ratio of 70 % glaze 9450 to 30 % engobe.

Applying the glaze

The glaze is applied to bisque-fired ceramics that were fired at 950 °C or above. Stir it thoroughly before use, as the particles settle. If it is too thick, thin it with a little water as needed.

• Stir the glaze well and thin with water if needed
• Apply to the bisque-fired piece with a brush
• Leave to dry thoroughly
• Apply another coat if needed

Firing and effect

The glaze is stable in the range from 1020 to 1060 °C; it can be fired up to 1100 °C. For the speckled structure and the interplay with your clay or engobe, it is worth making a test piece before you glaze a larger piece.
