Botz liquid glaze 9479 Zarte Blüte is a glossy, semi-transparent glaze for earthenware in a soft rose shade. You apply it with a brush to bisque-fired ceramics. According to Botz, the glaze is stable in the firing range of 1020 to 1060 °C and can be fired up to 1100 °C. It therefore suits earthenware clay that you fire in this temperature range.

Because the glaze is semi-transparent, the surface underneath shows through. On a light clay body the shade stays soft and rosy, while on coloured clay it becomes darker. A tension swatch is not needed here, but a test piece is the surest way to see how the result looks on your clay.

Application

The glaze is ready to use but can be thinned with a little water if needed. The clay body must first be bisque-fired at 950 °C or above.

• Stir the glaze well and thin with water if needed
• Apply to the bisque-fired ceramics with a brush
• Leave to dry thoroughly
• Apply another coat if needed
• Fire in the firing range of 1020–1060 °C

Colour effect and firing

Semi-transparent glazes reflect the colour of the clay: on coloured clay Zarte Blüte looks darker than on a light clay body. If you apply several coats, the shade becomes stronger. Fire the glaze within the stated firing range, in which it stays stable according to Botz, and even when experimenting stay below the upper limit of 1100 °C.
