Botz 9455 Atlantik liquid glaze – glossy sea green for earthenware
Botz 9455 Atlantik liquid glaze is a glossy, opaque sea-green glaze with subtle effects, for bisque-fired ceramics. It is designed for earthenware in the firing range 1020–1060 °C and can be fired up to 1100 °C. According to Botz, it looks especially attractive on black clay.
As the glaze is opaque, you apply it as an even coat of colour that covers the clay body. The effects stay subtle and give the green surface some life. It is also suitable for raku firings.
Application
Stir the glaze well before use, as the pigments settle at the bottom. If it is too thick, thin it with a little water if needed. Apply it with a brush to bisque-fired ceramics that were fired to at least 950 °C. Let each coat dry thoroughly and repeat the application if needed until the surface is evenly covered.
- Stir the glaze well and thin with water if needed
- Apply with a brush to bisque-fired ceramics (at least 950 °C)
- Let dry thoroughly and repeat if needed
- Fire in the range 1020–1060 °C, up to 1100 °C at most
Firing and results
The glaze is stable in the firing range of 1020–1060 °C. You can fire it up to 1100 °C, but expect different flow behaviour. The glaze tends to run. Apply it more thinly towards the bottom of the piece and leave the foot unglazed so that nothing sticks to the kiln shelf. You can also protect the shelf with kiln wash. The sea green shows to particular advantage on black clay. A test piece made from your own clay shows you beforehand how the colour and effects turn out.
