Botz Liquid Glaze 9367 Brombeerrot – glossy and opaque for earthenware
Botz liquid glaze 9367 Brombeerrot is a glossy, opaque glaze in blackberry red for earthenware. You apply it with a brush to bisque-fired ceramics. According to Botz, it melts out very well and is stable in the firing range of 1020–1060 °C. You can fire it up to 1100 °C, and even then it does not tend to run. That gives you some leeway during firing.
The glaze also gives very good results on coloured clays. Because it is opaque, the glaze largely determines the colour effect rather than the colour of the clay body. A short test piece on your own clay shows you beforehand how the red will look.
Applying the glaze
The glaze is liquid and ready to use. Proceed as follows:
- Stir the glaze well, as pigments and glaze components settle in the tin.
- Thin with a little water if needed.
- Apply with a brush to bisque-fired ceramics (bisque firing at least 950 °C).
- Leave to dry thoroughly and apply another coat if needed.
Firing and result
Fire the glaze in the range of 1020–1060 °C, in which it is stable according to Botz. The upper limit is 1100 °C. For an evenly opaque surface, apply each coat evenly and let it dry completely. Applying the glaze too thickly at the edges and on the foot is the most common cause of run marks and sticking to the kiln shelf. Leave the foot ring free for that reason.
Choosing from the range
Botz offers the liquid glazes in further colours with the same firing range, for example Primelrosa, Fliederblau or Kanarigelb. You can therefore use them together in one firing.
