Botz Liquid Glaze 9597 Flammengrün – strong green, glossy, with texture

Flammengrün (9597) is a Botz liquid glaze for earthenware in a strong, opaque green. The surface is glossy and develops a lively, speckled texture during firing. Bowls, mugs or figures do not look flat and uniform, but gain depth.

The glaze is designed for a firing range of 1020–1060 °C and is raku-suitable. Fire it with an oxygen supply if possible, or set the pieces loosely in the kiln so that the green and the texture come out cleanly. Pieces packed closely together get less air, which can change the result.

Applying the glaze

Apply the glaze to bisque-fired ceramics. The piece should have been bisque-fired at a minimum of 950 °C.

• Stir the glaze well and thin with a little water if needed
• Apply to the bisque-fired ceramic with a brush
• Leave to dry thoroughly
• Apply another coat if needed

Firing and combinations

The glaze remains stable within the firing range of 1020–1060 °C. The oxygen supply is important: set the pieces loosely so that air can reach them. Leave the foot of the piece free of glaze so that nothing sticks to the kiln shelf. As the texture depends on the firing, a test piece on your own clay body is worthwhile. Flammengrün combines well with the Botz glazes 9596, 9606 and 9607, for example for colour gradients or contrasting zones on a single piece.
