Botz Liquid Glaze 9368 Fliederblau – opaque, glossy blue for earthenware
Botz liquid glaze 9368 Fliederblau is a glaze for earthenware that fires to an opaque, glossy lilac blue. It gives a solid colour and also produces very good results on coloured clays, so you do not need a pale clay body for the colour to show.
The glaze melts out well and, according to Botz, does not tend to run even at 1100 °C. It is stable in the firing range 1020–1060 °C and can be fired up to 1100 °C. Fliederblau is one of the Botz liquid glazes, which come in ten colours with the same firing range, so you can combine the colours of the series in the same firing.
Application
Apply the glaze to bisque-fired ceramics. The bisque firing should have been carried out at 950 °C or above so that the clay body takes up the glaze evenly.
- Stir the glaze well, as the colour pigments settle at the bottom.
- Thin with a little water if needed.
- Apply evenly with a brush and leave to dry thoroughly.
- If the colour is not yet opaque, apply another coat once dry.
Firing and result
Fire the glaze within the range of 1020–1060 °C, where it is stable. Firing up to 1100 °C is possible. According to Botz, the glaze does not run there either. Even so, do not apply it too thickly and leave the foot of the piece free of glaze so that nothing sticks to the kiln shelf. A test piece on your own clay will show you beforehand how the Fliederblau turns out.
