Botz 9375 Französischblau liquid glaze – opaque, glossy mid blue
Botz liquid glaze 9375 Französischblau is a glossy, opaque glaze in mid blue for earthenware. You apply it with a brush to bisque-fired ceramics. According to Botz, it melts out very well and does not tend to run even at 1100 °C, so it gives an even, unbroken surface.
The glaze also gives good results on coloured clays. Because it is opaque, the colour of the clay has little effect on the shade of blue. A test piece made from your own clay will still show you beforehand how the blue turns out for you. 9375 belongs to the Botz liquid glaze series, which includes further colours with the same firing range.
Application
The glaze is intended for bisque-fired ceramics. Stir it thoroughly before use, as colour pigments and glaze components settle in the tub.
- Stir the glaze well and thin with a little water if needed
- Apply with a brush to the bisque-fired ceramics (bisque firing at least 950 °C)
- Allow to dry well and apply a further coat if needed
- Fire within the firing range of 1020–1060 °C; firing up to 1100 °C is possible
Tips for an even result
Apply the coats evenly and let each one dry completely, so that no brush marks or pooling in hollows occur. Leave the foot of the piece free of glaze, otherwise it will stick to the kiln shelf during firing. If you fire at 1100 °C, you can rely on the glaze melting out without having to worry about running.
