Botz Stoneware Engobe 9801 Weiß – opaque, matt and crisp-edged

Botz stoneware engobe 9801 Weiß is a liquid white engobe for decorating stoneware. You brush it onto leather-hard or bisque-fired clay and fire it within the range of 1180–1280 °C. It covers well and gives clean contours, so areas, lines and patterns stand out clearly.

Unglazed, the engobe looks matt with a soft, earthy finish. Under a transparent glaze such as Botz 9300 or 9870, the white becomes glossy and rich in colour. The engobe can be mixed with other colours from the Botz range, so you can create your own shades of white and other tones. The tub contains 800 ml.

Application

Stir the engobe thoroughly before use so that the pigments are evenly distributed. Then brush on two to three coats onto leather-hard or bisque-fired clay. Let each coat dry well in between so that the next one does not dissolve it and the coverage stays even.

Matt or glossy – which finish suits your piece?

Without glaze, the surface stays matt and earthy. This suits pieces with a natural, understated character. If you want a bright, glossy white, cover the engobe with a transparent glaze, for example Botz 9300 or 9870. Try the combination first on a test piece made from your own clay, as clay and glaze both affect the result.
