Botz Stoneware Engobe 9822 Flamingo – opaque pink engobe for stoneware

Botz stoneware engobe 9822 Flamingo colours stoneware ceramics in a pink to salmon shade. It belongs to the Botz Edition of 15 stoneware engobes and is stable in the 1180–1280 °C firing range. The colour covers well and keeps crisp contours, so patterns and fine lines come out cleanly.

Without glaze, the surface becomes soft matt and earthy. With a clear glaze, the shade looks stronger and glossy.

Applying the engobe

Stir the engobe well before use so that the colour pigments are evenly distributed. Then apply 2–3 coats to leather-hard or bisque-fired clay and let the engobe dry thoroughly. Thin, even coats cover more cleanly than a single thick application, which is more likely to crack as it dries.

With or without glaze

Applied neat, Flamingo stays matt. For a glossy, intense finish, apply one coat of clear glaze over the engobe, for example Botz Transparent 9300 or 9870. According to Botz, the engobes are recommended for tableware with a suitable glaze, depending on the glaze. Firing is in the 1180–1280 °C range; the examples in the Botz catalogue show a firing at 1250 °C. A test piece on your own clay shows you beforehand how the shade turns out.

Choosing and mixing colours

Flamingo can be mixed with the other Edition colours from Botz, so you can create your own shades. According to Botz, the Edition engobes also cover well on dark clay bodies. The engobe is available in 200 ml for trying out and in 800 ml for larger quantities.
