Botz stoneware engobe 9805 Blau colours stoneware in an opaque deep blue. You apply it to leather-hard or bisque-fired clay and fire it in the range of 1180–1280 °C.

Without glaze, the surface stays soft matt and earthy. The engobe covers well and keeps sharp edges, so it also suits decoration with clean lines. It can be mixed with other colours from the Botz Edition, so you can create your own shades of blue. Under a transparent glaze, for example Botz 9300 or 9870, the blue becomes intense and glossy.

Applying the engobe

Stir the engobe well before use, as it settles in the container. Apply it in 2–3 coats to leather-hard or bisque-fired clay and let each coat dry thoroughly before applying the next. This gives an even, opaque finish.

• Let dry thoroughly between coats
• Then fire in the range of 1180–1280 °C

Matt or glossy?

Applied on its own, the engobe is matt with an earthy look. If you would like a bright, glossy blue, cover it with a transparent glaze such as Botz 9300 or 9870. The result depends on the glaze, so a test piece will show you beforehand how the colour and surface turn out for you.
