Botz PRO 9620 Rubinrot – glossy liquid glaze for earthenware and stoneware

Botz PRO 9620 Rubinrot is a liquid brush-on glaze in a medium, glossy red. It is semi-transparent and intended for earthenware and stoneware. The firing range runs from 1020 to 1280 °C, so you can fire the glaze on clays with very different firing temperatures without changing glaze. The 200 ml tub suits test pieces and smaller projects. The glaze is made in Germany and, according to Botz, combines well with Botz Unidekor.

The colour effect depends on the firing temperature. Because the red is semi-transparent, the colour of your clay also shows through.

According to Botz, these details describe the PRO range as a whole. A test piece in your own clay will show you how Rubinrot looks for you.

• From 1020 °C (earthenware): strong colour and almost opaque, apply 2 to 3 coats
• Around 1150 °C (early-vitrifying clays): the colour is retained, the surface becomes more semi-transparent, apply 2 coats
• High firing up to 1280 °C (stoneware): glassy, semi-transparent surface; also possible on porcelain at 1250 °C

Application and avoiding runs

Stir the glaze well before applying and brush it onto the bisque-fired, dust-free piece. Let each coat dry before applying the next. Rubinrot tends to run when applied thickly from 1150 °C. Apply the glaze more thinly on the lower third of the piece and leave the foot unglazed. Protect the kiln shelf with kiln wash in case some glaze does run.
