Botz PRO 9306 Saphirblau – deep blue liquid glaze for earthenware and stoneware
Botz PRO 9306 Saphirblau is a ready-to-use brush-on liquid glaze in a deep blue. You can use it on earthenware and stoneware. The tin contains 800 ml. The finish is glossy and semi-transparent.
With a firing range of 1020–1280 °C, you do not need separate glazes for earthenware, early-vitrifying clays and stoneware. According to the manufacturer, the glaze is also suitable for raku and can be combined with Botz Unidekor. The PRO series is available in 200 ml and 800 ml.
Firing and application
The effect of the glaze depends on the firing temperature. The following recommendations apply to the PRO series according to Botz. Leave the glaze to dry for a day before firing. A thick application will run, so apply it thinly on the lower part of the piece. Protect the kiln shelf with kiln wash.
- From 1020 °C (earthenware): the colours become strong and almost opaque. Apply 2–3 coats.
- Around 1150 °C (e.g. early-vitrifying clays): the colour stays, while the surface becomes more semi-transparent. Apply 2 coats.
- High firing around 1250 °C: glassy, semi-transparent finish in pastel shades. Good results are also achieved on porcelain at 1250 °C.
- Recommended firing temperature: 1050 °C for earthenware, 1250 °C for stoneware, each with a hold time of 10–20 minutes.
Tableware and safety
According to Botz, all Botz products are exempt from hazard labelling. For tableware, Botz recommends the PRO glazes fired from approx. 1200 °C. In the earthenware range of 1020–1100 °C, many clays are not yet watertight. You should not use such ceramics for liquids over a long period, nor leave them outdoors in frost. Botz recommends washing glazed tableware by hand.
