Botz Stoneware Glaze 9870 Transparent – colourless, glossy, frost-proof

Botz stoneware glaze 9870 Transparent is a liquid, colourless, transparent and glossy glaze for stoneware, applied with a brush. It is fired in the range of 1220–1280 °C. In this range the glaze becomes watertight, absorbs no water and is frost-proof. That matters if your pieces are kept outdoors or get a lot of use.

As the glaze has no colour of its own, the colour of your clay or decoration stays visible. It is therefore suitable as a clear top coat over clay colour, engobes or decorating colours. Over Botz UNIDEKOR, apply it only once.

Applying the glaze

Stir the glaze well before use. Then apply 2 to 3 coats with a brush and let each coat dry thoroughly before applying the next. Even coats help you achieve a smooth surface. Over UNIDEKOR, a single coat is enough.

Firing and finish

Botz recommends a firing temperature of 1250 °C with a 30-minute hold. At 1220 °C the surface looks more satin, and at higher temperatures it is glossier. If you want to influence the degree of gloss, a test piece made from your clay is a good idea. Keep the foot of the piece free of glaze or wipe it clean so that nothing sticks to the kiln shelf.
