Botz PRO 9313 Pyrit Weiß – liquid glaze for earthenware and stoneware
Botz PRO 9313 Pyrit Weiß is a ready-to-use, white brush-on liquid glaze for earthenware and stoneware. It is glossy and semi-transparent. With a firing range of 1020–1280 °C, you can use it at low earthenware temperatures and in high-fire stoneware firings. According to Botz, it also gives good results on porcelain at 1250 °C. So you do not need a different glaze for every firing temperature.
The glaze comes in an 800 ml tin. According to Botz, this quantity corresponds to roughly 1.4–1.8 kg of mixed powder glaze. This helps you plan larger quantities. Pyrit Weiß can be combined with BOTZ Unidekor.
Effect depending on firing temperature
The glaze changes its appearance with the firing temperature. According to Botz:
- From approx. 1020–1050 °C (earthenware): apply 2–3 coats; the glaze becomes coloured and almost opaque.
- Around 1150 °C (early-vitrifying clays): apply 2 coats; the surface becomes more semi-transparent.
- In a high firing at 1250 °C (stoneware, porcelain): apply 2 coats; the surface becomes glassy and semi-transparent.
Application and avoiding runs
Stir the glaze well before use and apply it with a brush to a clean, dust-free, bisque-fired clay body. Let each coat dry slightly before applying the next. With a thick application, the glaze tends to run from approx. 1150 °C. So apply it more thinly on the lower part of the piece and leave the foot unglazed. Protect the kiln shelf with kiln wash. As the glaze is semi-transparent, the colour of your clay affects the result. A test tile made from your clay and fired at your firing temperature shows you beforehand how Pyrit Weiß looks in your kiln.
