Botz PRO 9300 Transparent – liquid glaze for earthenware, stoneware and porcelain
Botz PRO 9300 Transparent is a glossy, semi-transparent liquid glaze for earthenware, stoneware and porcelain. With a firing range of 1020–1280 °C, you can use it at low earthenware temperatures just as well as in a high firing. So you don't need to buy a different glaze for every clay.
Because the glaze is semi-transparent, the colour and decoration of the surface underneath show through. It can be combined with BOTZ Unidekor. The glaze is made in Germany and the contents are 200 ml.
Application and firing
Apply the glaze with a brush to the bisque-fired, dust-free piece and let each coat dry thoroughly. For the PRO series, the following recommendations apply depending on the firing range:
- Earthenware from 1020 °C: 2–3 coats
- Early-vitrifying clays at around 1150 °C: 2 coats, the surface becomes semi-transparent
- High firing/stoneware: glassy, semi-transparent surface
- Porcelain at 1250 °C: nice results according to Botz
Avoiding runs
The glaze tends to run when applied thickly. It is therefore better to apply several thin coats rather than one thick one, and to leave the foot of the piece unglazed. This keeps the kiln shelf clean. A test piece on your own clay will show you beforehand how the glaze looks at your firing temperature.
Choosing a PRO glaze
Besides 9300 Transparent, the PRO series is also available as 9301 Opalweiß, 9302 Achatgrau, 9303 Citrin Yellow and 9304 Seladongrün, each in 200 ml and 800 ml. Choose Transparent if the clay or decoration should stay visible and you only want a glossy protective layer. Choose the coloured shades if the glaze itself is to provide the colour.
