Mayco Jungle Gems CG-1006 Purple Reign – crystal glaze for decorative ceramics
Mayco Jungle Gems CG-1006 Purple Reign is a liquid crystal glaze for ceramics that forms a lively surface with coloured crystals in the kiln. It is ready to use and comes in a 118 ml container.
The glaze contains crystalline particles that spread during firing and create individual patterns. On vases, bowls and other decorative pieces, this gives effects that a single-colour glaze cannot achieve. Jungle Gems is a Mayco series with several crystal glazes; CG-1006 is one of them.
Application
The crystals settle in the container. Shake the glaze well before each use and stir it so that the crystals are evenly distributed.
- Apply 2–3 even coats to bisque-fired ceramics with a fan brush
- Allow to dry between coats
- For the third coat, redistribute the crystals if needed so that coverage is even
- Do not place crystals near the base, as they may run because of their flow properties
- Allow to dry thoroughly before firing
Firing and colour effect
Fire at cone 06 to 05 (approx. 998 to 1031 °C, guide value per Orton chart). At higher temperatures the colours become paler. Stay within the recommended range if you want to keep the strong colour effect of the crystals. The base is bisque-fired ceramics, fired at cone 04 (approx. 1063 °C, guide value per Orton chart).
Decorative use only
The glaze is intended for vases, bowls and other decorative pieces. Mayco does not recommend it for dinnerware: the surface may crackle and is therefore not suitable for contact with food. The product carries the ACMI AP (Approved Product) seal; according to ACMI, it is exempt from hazard labelling. Full safety data sheets (SDS) are available at MaycoColors.com.
