Mayco Jungle Gems CG-979 Meadow – liquid glaze with crystal effects
Mayco Jungle Gems Crystal Glaze CG-979 Meadow is a ready-to-use liquid glaze for bisque-fired ceramics that forms crystal effects in the firing. You can use it on decorative pieces such as vases and bowls. It is not suitable for dinnerware.
The glaze contains crystalline particles that spread during firing and create a pattern that is different on every piece. It is fired at cone 06–05 (approx. 998–1031 °C, guide value per Orton chart). At higher temperatures the colours become paler, so stay within the recommended range. Meadow is applied with a brush and is not intended for spraying. The 118 ml contents are enough for several small to medium pieces.
Application
The crystals settle in the bottle, so stir the glaze before every application.
- Shake and stir the glaze well before each use so that the crystals are evenly distributed.
- Apply 2–3 even coats to bisque-fired ceramics with a fan brush.
- Allow to dry between coats.
- For the third coat, redistribute the crystals if necessary so that the surface is covered evenly.
- Allow to dry thoroughly and fire at cone 06–05 (approx. 998–1031 °C, guide value per Orton chart).
Crystals and flow
The crystals can run during firing. Do not apply them near the base of your piece, so that nothing sticks to the edge of the kiln shelf. It is best to leave the foot bare. As every piece develops its own crystal pattern, it is worth making a small test piece from your own clay before your first larger project.
