Botz 9106 liquid glaze – colourless and high-gloss for earthenware

Botz liquid glaze 9106 Transparent Hochglänzend is a colourless, glossy clear glaze for earthenware. You apply it to bisque-fired ware or to painted surfaces, glazing over decoration, underglazes or coloured glazes. It is ready to use; you just need to stir it well. Painted designs stay visible under the glaze, and the gloss enhances colour intensity and depth. The firing range is 1020–1100 °C, and it works best at 1020–1060 °C.

The tin contains 800 ml.

Applying the glaze

The clay body should be free of dust and grease. Stir the glaze vigorously before use so that any settled particles are mixed back in.

• Apply one or two thin coats with a bristle brush, or dip or pour instead
• Allow to dry well between coats; according to Botz, allow approx. 1 day of drying time before firing
• Fire within the range 1020–1060 °C; up to 1100 °C is possible
• For a particularly smooth gloss, hold for 10–20 minutes at approx. 1050 °C

Avoiding a milky finish and choosing the right glaze

If you apply the glaze too thickly, it can turn milky during firing. This shows up especially on dark clay. Stick to thin coats and test on a test tile made from your own clay. The glaze lets underglaze decoration show through, so it looks especially good over coloured paintwork. If you want a matt surface, choose Botz liquid glaze 9108 Transparent matt from the same series.
