Botz Stoneware Engobe 9802 Avocado – opaque, matt green for stoneware
Botz stoneware engobe 9802 Avocado is a solid-colour green liquid engobe for colouring ceramics. It is stable in the firing range 1180–1280 °C and suitable for stoneware. Without a glaze it fires to a soft matt, earthy finish, covers well and picks up outlines sharply.
With a clear glaze such as Botz 9300 or 9870, the colour becomes more intense and glossy. As the engobe can be mixed with other colours from the Botz Edition, you can create your own shades of green. The colour is also available in the series in 800 ml; this item contains 200 ml.
Applying the engobe
The engobe can be applied to leather-hard or already bisque-fired clay. It is important that each layer dries thoroughly before the next one is applied.
- Stir the engobe well before use
- Apply 2–3 coats with a brush
- Allow to dry thoroughly between coats
- Fire in the firing range 1180–1280 °C
Matt or glossy – which to choose?
Applied on its own, the surface stays matt, the colour looks earthy and the edges remain sharp. This suits designs with clear outlines. If you want the green to glow and shine, cover the engobe with a clear glaze. The result depends on the glaze and your clay, so a test piece will show you the effect beforehand. This also applies if you mix the engobe with other Edition colours.
