Botz stoneware glaze 9866 Strandgut – matt, sandy glaze in light beige
Botz stoneware glaze 9866 Strandgut is a liquid, matt glaze in a sandy light beige for stoneware in the firing range 1220–1280 °C. Soft brown effects appear where the glaze is applied thinly or lightly wiped off, giving the surface a natural, sandy look.
The glaze stays stable across the whole firing range, so you can adjust the firing temperature to suit your kiln and the look you want. Fired within this range, stoneware becomes vitrified, absorbs no water and is frost-resistant. The pot contains 200 ml.
How Strandgut looks at different temperatures
The firing temperature changes the result without the glaze losing its character. Choose according to the look you want:
- 1220 °C: slightly lighter and more opaque
- 1250 °C: more of the soft effects
- 1280 °C: slight grey effects and more depth
Application and firing
Stir the glaze well before use. Apply 2–3 coats with a brush to dust-free bisque-fired ware and let each coat dry thoroughly. The soft brown effects show where the glaze is applied thinly. To place them deliberately, lightly wipe off edges or raised areas before firing. Fire at 1250 °C with a 30-minute hold. Wipe the foot of the piece free of glaze so that it does not stick to the kiln shelf during firing. A test piece made from your own clay shows you beforehand how application thickness and temperature affect the result.
Choosing within the series
For a sandy, light beige, choose Strandgut. The other shades in the Botz stoneware series are grey (9861 Betongrau), yellow (9862 Wüstengelb), blue (9863 Vergissmeinnicht), pink (9864 Rosa Fels) and green-blue-grey (9865 Eukalyptus).
