Botz Stoneware Engobe 9802 Avocado – matt green with good coverage and crisp contours
Botz stoneware engobe 9802 Avocado is a green, opaque engobe for decorating stoneware. It is stable in the firing range of 1180 to 1280 °C. Without glaze it fires to a soft matt finish with an earthy look, covers well and traces contours sharply. This makes it suitable for patterns, areas and lines on vessels and objects.
If you apply a transparent glaze over it, for example Botz 9300 or 9870, the green becomes intense and glossy. The engobe can be mixed with other colours from the Botz Edition, so you can create your own shades.
Application
Stir the engobe well before use so that the colour pigments are evenly distributed. Apply it in 2 to 3 coats on leather-hard or bisque-fired clay and let each coat dry thoroughly before brushing on the next. Several thin coats usually cover more evenly than one thick application.
- Applied neat: matt, earthy surface
- With transparent glaze: glossy and intense in colour
- Firing range: 1180–1280 °C
Choosing and combining
The Botz stoneware engobe series includes further colours, such as White, Miami, Swimmingpool and Blue. As the shades of the Botz Edition can be mixed, you can lighten or alter Avocado. Make a test piece with your own clay and glaze beforehand, as this shows you how the green looks after firing in your setup.
