Botz 9448 Himmelblau Liquid Glaze – Glossy, Opaque Light Blue to Turquoise
Botz 9448 Himmelblau liquid glaze is a glossy, opaque glaze in a strong light blue to turquoise for bisque-fired ceramics. It is a single, solid colour with good coverage, so you get an even finish with no gradient or special effect. It suits plates, bowls, figures or decorative pieces that are meant to have a clear blue colour.
The glaze belongs to the Botz range of glazes for earthenware. According to Botz, it is stable in the firing range of 1020–1060 °C and can be fired up to 1100 °C. A test tile made from your own clay will show you beforehand how the colour turns out at your firing temperature.
Application
Stir the glaze well before use, as the colour pigments settle at the bottom. If it is too thick, dilute it with a little water if needed. Apply it with a brush to the bisque-fired piece and let each coat dry thoroughly before continuing.
- Stir the glaze thoroughly and dilute with water if needed
- Apply with a brush to bisque-fired ceramics (at least 950 °C)
- Allow to dry well and repeat if needed
Firing and coverage
Because the glaze is opaque, the number of coats is the main factor in how rich the blue becomes. Apply several even coats rather than one thick one, so the surface looks free of brush marks and streaks. Leave the base of the piece free of glaze, otherwise it will fuse to the kiln shelf as the glaze melts. Fire within the stated range of 1020–1060 °C, where the glaze is stable according to Botz.
