Botz 9603 Rosenrot liquid glaze is a glossy, opaque glaze in warm cherry red for bisque-fired ceramics. You apply it with a brush and fire it to a maximum of 1040 °C. It is also suitable for raku.

The glaze belongs to the Botz earthenware group. It is a plain, opaque colour, so it looks even without being mixed with other glazes. Its firing limit is low: if you fire it above 1040 °C, the shade shifts towards pink. Rosenrot therefore only suits firings that do not exceed this temperature. Do not fire it in a kiln load with stoneware glazes that need a higher temperature.

Applying Rosenrot

For a strong cherry red, apply the glaze thickly. This works in several coats if you let each coat dry thoroughly before brushing on the next.

• Stir the glaze well and thin with a little water if needed
• Brush onto bisque-fired ceramics (bisque firing at least 950 °C)
• Allow to dry thoroughly
• Repeat the application if needed

Firing and colour effect

The glaze can only be fired to 1040 °C. If you stay below that, it keeps its warm cherry red. At a higher temperature it tends towards pink, and the colour departs from Rosenrot. If you fire Rosenrot together with other Botz glazes, make sure their firing limits also suit this range. As the glaze is suitable for raku, you can also use it in that firing process.
