Botz 9449 Sonnengelb Liquid Glaze – Opaque, Bright Yellow
Botz 9449 Sonnengelb liquid glaze is an opaque, bright yellow glaze with a glossy finish for bisque-fired ceramics. It covers well, so the yellow shows up even on black clay. The glaze is stable in the firing range of 1020–1060 °C and can be fired up to 1100 °C. It is also suitable for raku.
Because the glaze is opaque, the colour effect hardly depends on the colour of your clay. That makes Sonnengelb a reliable choice for bowls, mugs, figures or decorative pieces where a strong colour accent is wanted. Yellow quickly shows brush marks and unevenness, so a careful, even application is worthwhile.
Application
The glaze is applied to bisque-fired ceramics. Stir it thoroughly before use, as pigments and glaze components settle in the container.
- Bisque-fire the ceramics at 950 °C minimum
- Stir the glaze thoroughly and thin with a little water if needed
- Apply to the bisque-fired ceramics with a brush
- Leave to dry well and apply a further coat if needed
Firing and result
In the firing range of 1020–1060 °C the glaze is stable and gives a glossy, opaque yellow. It can be fired up to 1100 °C. Brush the coats on as evenly as possible and change the brush direction with each coat to avoid streaks in the yellow surface. A test piece will show you beforehand how the yellow looks on your clay and in your kiln.
Matching colours in the series
Botz offers these liquid glazes in further shades, for example Himmelblau, Marinablau or Petrol. They can be used as a contrast to Sonnengelb on the same piece.
