Botz 9346 Antikweiß is an opaque, satin white liquid glaze for bisque-fired ceramics. It is stable in the firing range of 1020 to 1060 °C and suitable for raku. The surface looks lively: according to Botz, the glaze crackles, forming fine cracks, and is slightly textured to speckled.

On white clay, Antikweiß looks simple and refined. On dark clay it produces interesting effects, because the glaze shows up differently there. It runs heavily, so allow for this when applying it and when placing the piece in the kiln.

Application and firing

Method:

• Stir the glaze well and thin with a little water if needed
• Apply with a brush to bisque-fired ceramics (bisque firing at least 950 °C)
• Allow to dry thoroughly and apply another coat if needed
• Fire in the firing range of 1020 to 1060 °C

Preventing runs

Antikweiß runs heavily. Do not apply the glaze too thickly, especially on the lower third of the piece, and leave the foot unglazed. This stops the glaze from sticking to the kiln shelf. You can also protect the kiln shelf with kiln wash. A test piece on your own clay will show you beforehand how white the glaze looks on a light clay body and what effects it gives on dark clay.
