Botz 9531 Winterfeld liquid glaze – satin finish with transparent glossy flecks
Botz 9531 Winterfeld liquid glaze is a satin glaze for bisque-fired ceramics. On a champagne-coloured base it forms transparent glossy flecks. The glaze is intended for earthenware and is stable within a firing range of 1020–1060 °C. You can also fire it up to 1100 °C.
On coloured clays the flecks become darker. The champagne-coloured base therefore looks lightest on a pale clay body, while on darker clay the overall look changes. A test piece on your own clay will show you beforehand how Winterfeld looks with your clay.
Applying Winterfeld
The glaze must be applied to bisque-fired ceramics that were fired at 950 °C or above. If the glaze settles in the pot, stir it well. If needed, thin it with a little water.
- Stir the glaze thoroughly
- Apply evenly with a brush
- Leave to dry well
- Apply a further coat if needed
- Wipe the base clean before firing and place the piece on a shelf protected with kiln wash
Firing and effect
The glaze is stable within the firing range of 1020–1060 °C. If you fire up to 1100 °C, you stay within the limit the shop gives for this glaze. How strongly the glossy flecks stand out depends on the clay, the thickness of application and the firing schedule. On coloured clays they become darker. On white or pale clay body they remain clearly visible as transparent dots on the champagne-coloured base. A test piece on your own clay shows you the result before you fire the actual piece.
