Botz Liquid Glaze 9558 Kiesel – satin beige with speckles

Botz liquid glaze 9558 Kiesel is a beige, satin glaze with intensely coloured small speckles, made for earthenware. It is semi-transparent, and the speckles add texture to the surface without your having to combine several glazes.

The glaze is stable in the firing range 1020–1060 °C and can be fired up to 1100 °C. This makes it suitable for earthenware fired in the mid-temperature range.

Application

The glaze is liquid and is brushed onto bisque-fired ceramics. Bisque firing should have been carried out at 950 °C or higher, so that the clay body takes up the glaze evenly.

• Stir the glaze well, as particles settle
• Thin with a little water if needed
• Brush onto the bisque-fired ceramics
• Leave to dry thoroughly
• Repeat the application if necessary

Colour effect and firing

Kiesel turns out darker when applied thinly. You can therefore control how strong the beige looks through the number of coats and the layer thickness. Apply the glaze as evenly as possible on all sides of a piece so that no differences in colour show. A test piece made from your own clay shows you beforehand how the colour and speckles turn out. For a stable result, fire within the firing range 1020–1060 °C. The upper limit of 1100 °C indicates the margin available above that.
