Botz liquid glaze 9420 Graue Feder is a glossy, blue-grey effect glaze for bisque-fired ceramics, with a firing range of 1020 to 1060 °C. Its effects show mainly on sloping and textured surfaces. Reliefs, grooves, bowl rims and curved shapes show it off particularly well. On smooth, flat surfaces it looks calmer.

According to Botz, the glaze is stable in the range 1020–1060 °C and can be fired up to 1100 °C. It is also suitable for raku firing. It comes as a ready-to-use liquid and is applied with a brush.

Applying the glaze

The glaze is suitable for ceramics that have previously been bisque-fired at a minimum of 950 °C. Here is how to proceed:

• Stir the glaze thoroughly before use, as pigments settle at the bottom.
• Thin with a little water if needed.
• Apply to the bisque-fired ceramic with a brush.
• Leave to dry thoroughly and repeat the application if needed.

Firing and effects

Fire the glaze in the range of 1020 to 1060 °C, where it is stable according to Botz. It can be fired up to 1100 °C. As the effects are most pronounced on sloping and textured areas, it is worth making a test piece with a relief and a slope from your own clay. That way you can see how the blue-grey looks with your clay before you glaze the actual piece.
