Botz 9578 Vanille liquid glaze – satin beige with brown speckles

Botz 9578 Vanille liquid glaze is a satin earthenware glaze in a soft beige with fine, slightly brown speckles. You brush it onto bisque-fired ceramics and fire it in a firing range of 1020–1060 °C.

The glaze is semi-transparent. How strongly the speckles show depends on how thickly it is applied and on the shape of the piece: on standing surfaces, such as the inside of a bowl, the speckles run together into streaks. If you apply it thinly, the reddish tones come through more strongly. This lets you control the effect with the thickness of the layer.

Application

The glaze is intended for bisque-fired ceramics. The bisque firing should have been carried out at 950 °C at least.

• Stir the glaze well before use
• Thin with a little water if necessary
• Brush onto the bisque-fired ceramics
• Leave to dry thoroughly and apply another coat if necessary
• Fire in a firing range of 1020–1060 °C

Controlling the colour effect

The glaze remains stable within the stated firing range. If you want to emphasise the reddish tones, apply it thinly. Horizontal areas such as the well of a plate or the inside of a bowl suit surfaces where you want the speckles to turn into streaks. As the glaze is semi-transparent, the clay body also influences the result. A test piece on your own clay shows you beforehand how the colour turns out.
