Botz 9540 Morgentau Liquid Glaze – Green Speckles on a Champagne-Coloured Base

Botz 9540 Morgentau liquid glaze is a satin, opaque glaze for earthenware. It shows intense green, floral speckles on a champagne-coloured base and gives bowls, mugs and decorative pieces a lively, speckled surface.

The glaze is liquid and ready to use: stir it, brush it onto bisque-fired ceramics and fire it in the range of 1020–1060 °C. This range lies within the temperature range for earthenware, so you do not need a high-fire kiln.

Applying Morgentau

The glaze is applied to bisque-fired ceramics. The bisque firing should have been carried out at a minimum of 950 °C so that the clay body takes up the glaze evenly.

• Stir the glaze well so that the colour pigments and speckles are evenly distributed
• Thin with a little water if needed
• Brush onto the bisque-fired piece
• Allow to dry thoroughly and apply a further coat if needed
• Fire in the firing range of 1020–1060 °C

Tips for an even result

A speckled glaze looks different depending on how it is applied. A test tile made from your own clay will show you beforehand how densely the green speckles appear on the champagne-coloured base. Leave the foot of the piece free of glaze so that it does not stick to the kiln shelf during firing. Apply each coat only once the previous one has dried completely, otherwise the glaze may run or form bubbles.
