Botz 9589 Liquid Glaze – Deep Black Gloss Glaze for Earthenware
Botz liquid glaze 9589 black gloss is a glaze for earthenware. It gives a clear, deep, opaque black with a glossy surface. You brush it onto bisque-fired ceramics and fire it in the range of 1020–1060 °C. It can also be fired up to 1100 °C.
As the glaze is opaque, it covers the clay body. The colour therefore hardly depends on the colour of your clay. This is useful if you want to glaze bowls, figures or decorative pieces made from different clays in a uniform black.
Applying the glaze
Stir the glaze well before use. If needed, thin it with a little water. Brush it onto ceramics that have been bisque-fired at 950 °C or above. Let each coat dry thoroughly and repeat the application if needed.
- Apply the glaze thickly so that the black turns out clear and deep.
- Let each coat dry completely before applying the next.
- As with any glaze, keep the foot of the piece free so that it does not stick to the kiln shelf.
Firing and choosing a glaze
The glaze is stable in the range of 1020–1060 °C and can be fired up to 1100 °C. It is therefore one of the earthenware glazes. For stoneware at considerably higher temperatures, you need a stoneware glaze. Botz liquid glazes are available in further colours and with different degrees of gloss. 9589 is the one to choose if you are looking for an opaque, glossy black.
