Botz 9611 Lackrot liquid glaze – strong, glossy red for earthenware
Botz liquid glaze 9611 Lackrot is a ready-to-use, glossy glaze in a strong, opaque red for bisque-fired ceramics. It gives an even colour with a smooth surface and is stable in the firing range of 1020–1060 °C. It belongs to the Botz glazes for earthenware (1020–1100 °C) and is also suitable for raku firing.
Lackrot is a solid colour, with no speckles, mica or running effects. That works well when the colour is meant to speak for itself, for example on bowls, plates, figures or decorative pieces. The Botz range includes other reds that differ in surface and effect. Lackrot is the calm, smooth and glossy one.
How to apply Lackrot
The glaze is ready to use and is applied with a brush to bisque-fired ceramics.
- Stir the glaze well and thin with a little water if needed
- Apply with a brush to the bisque-fired ceramics (bisque firing at least 950 °C)
- Leave to dry thoroughly and apply another coat if needed
- Fire within the range of 1020–1060 °C
Choosing and firing
For an even, opaque colour, apply the glaze in several even coats and let each coat dry before the next. Areas applied too thickly are a common cause of irregularities, so take particular care to apply it evenly on edges and rims. A test piece on your own clay will show you beforehand how the red turns out with your kiln and your clay body. As Lackrot is suitable for raku, you can also use the glaze for raku firing.
