Botz 9350 Sommerblau Liquid Glaze – Glossy, Fresh Mid-Blue

Sommerblau (9350) is a glossy liquid glaze from Botz in a fresh mid-blue. It gives good coverage and is suitable for earthenware in the firing range of 1020 to 1060 °C. It can be fired up to 1100 °C. The glaze is also suitable for raku.

You apply it with a brush to bisque-fired ceramics. Sommerblau can also be combined with speckled glazes, for example for the rim and the inside surface in different finishes.

Applying the glaze

The glaze is suitable for bisque-fired ceramics. For an even colour, thorough stirring and careful coats matter most.

• Stir the glaze well to bring the settled particles back into suspension
• If needed, thin with a little water
• Apply with a brush to the bisque-fired ceramics (bisque firing at least 950 °C)
• Let each coat dry well and apply another if needed

Firing and combining

The glaze stays stable in the firing range of 1020 to 1060 °C. If you fire up to 1100 °C, you are at the upper end of what Botz specifies for this glaze. The glaze is glossy and opaque. A test piece on your own clay shows you beforehand how Sommerblau turns out in your firing. If you combine Sommerblau with a speckled glaze, test the combination on a test piece first as well.
